Better and Warmer Homes Campaign shortlisted for top award

A scheme run by South Kesteven District Council to help householder have warmer and better homes has been shortlisted for a national award. The National Energy Efficiency Awards organised by UK CEED, EDF Energy and the Independent will take place on 2 December in London. The awards recognise excellence in energy efficiency and conservation.

Sout Kesteven District Council’s Warmer and Better Homes campaign has been shortlisted in the Public Sector category.

Crystal Dewsbury, project manager commented “I’m absolutely delighted that the scheme has been shortlisted for this award. It is a fantastic achievement and testament to all the hard work of the team.”

The scheme came about after Sout Kesteven District Council were successful in obtaining over half a million pounds from the Regional Housing Board, the Government Office East Midlands and Defra.

The scheme is designed to benefit every home owner and private tenant in South Kesteven by providing a free thermometer and advice on possible grants and discounts on loft and cavity wall insulation.

Kevin Martin, Housing Solutions Service Manager explains “The aim of “Better and Warmer Homes” is simple - to make heating homes more affordable and more comfortable and is designed to benefit every home. Increasing fuel costs serve to remind us of the need to make our homes as energy efficient as possible. With little or no insulation, over half of the energy you pay for can be lost to the environment. This can lead to a big hole in your pocket, and it is preventable.”

The news came on the eve of energy efficiency week 20-26 October where everyone was  encouraged to do their bit to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions – one of the main greenhouse gases thought to contribute to climate change.
