The results of the private sector stock condition survey carried out by PPS in 2006. Approximately 1200 homes across the district were surveyed both for the physical condition of the dwellings and a social questionnaire.
Private sector housing includes owner-occupied dwellings and the private rented sector but excludes those let by housing associations and local authorities.
The estimates cover:
- Dwellings which fail the Decent Homes Standard
- Dwellings which fail the Decent Homes Standard due to:
- being unfit
- Inadequate thermal comfort
- Disrepair
- Non-modern facilities and services
- Vulnerable households
- Non-decent homes occupied by a vulnerable household
- The proportion of vulnerable households in decent homes (PSA7)
- Households in fuel poverty
- Dwellings with a SAP rating less than 30
The results for each sub-area of the survey have been combined with the distribution, or spread, of conditions defined by the Building Research Establishment Stock Model ,to give a more detailed picture than would be possible from a survey alone. Thus the resulting maps and data are a more up-to-date and accurate model of housing conditions in the district.
See ‘Decent Homes’ for detailed definitions of the above factors
